The picturesque town in the foothills of the Eagle Mountains, in north eastern Bohemia, the town of the writer Karel Poláček, became a natural cultural, social and sports center of the  region. The population now reaches to almost 12 000 inhabitants. The average altitude is 320 m elevation above sea level.

The contemporary town lives a vivid social and cultural life and is rightly proud of its famous natives. There are many prominent personalities in the sphere of culture, education, science and sport . The town offers  its guests the possibility of visiting notable monuments like: Kolowrat´s Chateau, Town Hall where Toy´s Museum and Magdalena Dobromila Rettigova´s memorial tablet are situated, Saint´s Havel Church, Holy Trinity Church, Slavín and Bell Tower, Synagogue – Jewish museum of the Eagle mountains region and Karel Polaček´s memorial etc. On the outskirts of the town is Jewish cemetery.

The ideal places for relaxing walks, in the vicinity of Rychnov, are Včelný forest and charming Ivanské Lake. Nearby mountains are  more and more frequented place especially for family holidays, cycling and winter sports.
